SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEM
The 38,000 Square Foot Country Club at the city of Cocoa Beach's Recreational Complex offers casual to elegant dining in the restaurant and lounge, a 600 seat capacity auditorium, conference rooms and complete banquet facilities. The facility uses large quantities of hot water in providing food service in the various areas. A new solar water heating system recently installed at the clubhouse provides hot water for the kitchen. The solar system uses four, forty square foot solar thermal collectors to heat seventy percent of the hot water used daily at the restaurant.

Restaurants typically use significant quantities of hot water, requiring one to two gallons of hot water for each meal served. The club house restaurant solar water heating system is designed to pre-heat all water used in the kitchen serving the facility.

Healey & Associates designed a "drain-back" type system which provides freeze protection automatically by draining the solar collectors and exterior piping whenever the pump is not operating. Freeze protection of solar water heating systems is required in most Florida locations even though the potential for freezing is minimal.
