Merritt Island, Fla. -- Henry Healey, president of The Florida
Alternative Energy Corporation (Healey & Associates),
recently conducted the third of a series of training programs for
Federal Facility Managers on how to evaluate, develop, and
purchase solar systems. The training was part of the Federal Energy Management Program
(FEMP) College. The workshops were held in Washington D.C. and
San Francisco and were sponsored by the Department of Energy's
Federal Energy Management Program. Mr. Healey assisted the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Renewable Energy
Efficiency Training Institute in developing the course for
Federal facility managers. "We wanted to be able to make sure that facility managers
could easily identify and evaluate potential renewable energy
projects for their facilities," Healey said. "Federal
Facility Managers are under the gun to meet the renewable energy
goals set by the president, we want to help them find good sites
and evaluate the cost effectiveness of potential projects for
implementation. The success of the program in not what they
learn, but how many renewable energy projects they implement in
the future. Success is measured by action taken," he added. In order for facilities managers to successfully implement the
projects, Healey said, they must understand how renewable energy
technologies operate, how to select the most appropriate system,
the conditions required for them to perform cost effectively, and
the steps required for procuring and installing a successful
renewable energy system. "We gave examples of successful systems as well as the
details on how to identify cost effective applications and
develop their own systems or designs," Healey added.
"We wanted to show them that renewable energy is a viable
alternative to conventional sources of energy and can very well
pay for itself in the energy savings the facility
experiences." The Florida Alternative Energy Corporation specializes in the identification, development, evaluation ad implementation of Advanced Energy Conservation Measures for Commercial and Industrial Facilities. |
